Dr Lau Wen Liang, Joel obtained his MBBS (Singapore) from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University Singapore (YLLSOM, NUS), and subsequently commenced his General Surgery Residency. He obtained his post-graduate qualification from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh (MRCS, Edinburgh) and the Master of Medicine (Surgery) from the National University of Singapore. After completion of his specialist training locally, he was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS, Edinburgh). Subsequently, he underwent a Fellowship in Endocrine Surgery at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Churchill Hospital & John Radcliff Hospital) from 2024 to 2025.
He is accredited as a Specialist in General Surgery from the Singapore Specialist Accreditation Board. Dr Lau currently serves as a Consultant in the Department of Head and Neck Surgery at Singapore General Hospital, National Cancer Centre.
His clinical interests are in the surgical management of Thyroid Nodules, Thyroid Cancers, Graves Disease, Parathyroid Disorders, Adrenal Disorders. Aside from sub-specialty work, Dr Lau Wen Liang Joel is also trained in Acute Care Surgery and General Surgery competencies. He is trained in laparoscopic hernia (TEP) surgery and is accredited to perform endoscopic procedures for both diagnostic and therapeutic intervention.
