Prof Tan Eng King

Prof EK Tan is a Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Academic Affairs) and Senior Consultant Neurologist at the National Neuroscience Institute, a Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine.

Prof Tan has received various international accolades for his contributions to academia and education including the IAPRD Lifetime Achievement Award and MDS Marsden lectureship award. He is also a recipient of the President Science award, a three-time recipient of the NMRC STaR Award and a winner of the National Medical Excellence Award.

He chairs the MOH SAB research committee and is instrumental in leading the MOH Clinician Scientist Residency programme.

Prof Tan's clinical interest is in the care of patients with neurodegenerative disorders including Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor and other related disorders.

• Principal Investigator. A multi-centre, randomised, double-blind, placebo-and Entacapone-controlled, parallel group study of the Efficacy, Safety and tolerability of E2007 (an AMPA antagonist) in levodopa treated Parkinson’s disease patients with motor fluctuations. (PI; funded by Eisai; 2007-).

A Phase 2, 12-week, double-blind, dose-finding, placebo- controlled study to assess the efficacy and safety of a range of SCH 420814 doses (1mg BD, 2mg BD, 5mg BD, and possibly 10mg BD) in subjects with moderate to severe Parkinson’s disease experiencing motor fluctuations and dyskinesias. • Principal Investigator. A randomized, multicenter, double-blind, placebo-controlled, 18-month study of the efficacy of Xaliproden trial in patients with mild to moderate dementia of the Alzheimer’s type (PI; funded by Sanofi-aventis 2007-present)
