Dr Sumit Kumar Sonu is a Consultant Neurologist at the National Neuroscience Institute (Singapore General Hospital Campus) and a Consultant in Interventional Neuroradiology at Singapore General Hospital. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (Neurology), Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, and holds the European Diploma in Ischemic Stroke Intervention (EDSI). He is fluent in English, Tamil and Hindi.
Dr Sumit specialises in stroke, cerebrovascular diseases and neurointervention. In 2025–2026, he completed a Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP)-sponsored fellowship in Interventional Neuroradiology at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Australia, where he received advanced training in mechanical thrombectomy, cerebral angiography, intracranial aneurysm treatment and the management of complex neurovascular disorders.
He manages a broad range of neurological conditions, including stroke, headache disorders, epilepsy, movement disorders and neuroimmunological diseases. His research interests include acute stroke treatment, endovascular stroke therapy and neurovascular diseases. Dr Sumit is also actively involved in medical education and serves as Clinical Assistant Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School and Core Faculty of the SingHealth Neurology Senior Residency Programme.
