Dr Chen Min Wei is a Consultant Neurosurgeon at the National Neuroscience Institute, specialising in complex brain and skull base surgery.
As a skull base specialist, Dr Chen focuses on treating tumours that develop at the bottom part of the skull where the brain sits. He has experience in managing schwannomas (tumours that develop from nerve coverings) and meningiomas (tumours that grow from the protective layers surrounding the brain).
Dr Chen completed an observership stint at the neurosurgical unit at Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto where he gained valuable insights into the multidisciplinary management of vestibular schwannomas. He has since brought that philosophy back and is part of an experienced team of neurosurgeons, otologists and radiation oncologists in managing this relatively common disease.
Dr Chen has a unique interest in managing Moya Moya disease. He underwent additional training with the plastic and reconstructive surgeons to strengthen his microsurgical techniques for reconnecting blood vessels. This enables him to perform intricate cerebral bypass procedures, which create new pathways for blood flow in the brain when normal circulation is compromised.
Conditions Treated:
Dr Chen treats patients at Singapore General Hospital and Sengkang General Hospital.
