Neurology Fellowship Programmes

1. Cognitive Neurology and Dementia (NNI@TTSH)

Objective

The Fellowship in Cognitive Neurology and Dementia provides clinical fellows an opportunity to acquire up-to-date clinical skills for the diagnosis and management of cognitive disorders. In addition, clinical fellows will learn about research methodology and participate in cognitive neurology research.

Entry Requirement

Candidates should have completed basic neurology training.

2. Electromyography (EMG) and Neuromuscular Fellowship Programme (NNI@TTSH)

Objective

The Electromyography (EMG) and Neuromuscular Fellowship allow clinical fellows to understand and partake in planning, performing as well as interpreting of Electromyography (EMG) studies in relation to neuromuscular conditions.

Entry Requirement

Candidates should have completed or presently enrolled in an accredited Neurology/Rehabilitation Medicine or equivalent training programme.

Duration

6 to 12 months

 

3. Neuroimmunology and Neuroinflammation (NI-2) Fellowship Programme (NNI@TTSH)

Objective

The programme equips clinical fellows advanced clinical knowledge and skills in the evaluation and management of patients with Neuroimmunological and Neuroinflammatory disorders. It provides training in research methodology and participate in clinical and translational research in Neuroimmunology and Neuroinflammatory Disorders. Clinical fellows are able to participate in the education of these disorders to patients, their family/carers, healthcare professionals and the public.

Candidates should have completed or presently enrolled in an accredited Neurology or equivalent training programme.

6 to 12 months

 

4. Neuro-oncology Fellowship Programme (NNI@TTSH)

Objective

The Neuro-oncology Fellowship Programme aims to develop clinical fellows as independent and competent neuro-oncologists. Fellows will receive supervised training primarily in the treatment of adult primary brain tumours and gain exposure to the management of secondary brain tumours, and neurological complications of cancer and its treatment. On a weekly basis, fellows will run outpatient multi-disciplinary clinic, manage inpatient Neuro-Oncology consults, and attend the Brain Tumour Board. In addition, clinical fellows are expected to participate in the conduct of ongoing clinical trials and undertake at least one clinical research concurrent with their clinical training.

Candidates should have completed an Adult Neurology residency or equivalent.

5. Neurophysiology Fellowship Programme (NNI@SGH / NNI@TTSH)

Objective

The NNI Clinical Neurophysiology Fellowship provides clinical fellows an opportunity to learn and have hands-on experience on a variety of clinical skills such as Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS), Electromyography (EMG), Evoked Potentials and magnetic simulation techniques.

Entry Requirement

Candidates should be a Neurologist-in-training, a Certified Neurologist or a Clinical Neurophysiologist.

6 to 12 months

 

6. Neurophysiology and Neuromuscular Fellowship Programme (NNI@TTSH)

Objective

The NNI Clinical Neurophysiology and Neuromuscular Fellowships allows clinical fellows to be competent in planning, performing as well as interpreting Electromyography (EMG) studies in relation to the neuromuscular condition. The fellowship programme provides training in evaluation and manage patients with various neuromuscular conditions. Clinical fellows will learn to grasp the basics of autonomic function tests and the diagnosis/management of autonomic disease, learning the diagnostic muscle and nerve pathology with exposure to Neuromuscular related research.

Clinical fellows will be able to understand the principles of Electroencephalography (EEG), its application and to recognize both normal and abnormal waveforms and learning basic muscle and nerve diagnostic ultrasound.

Candidates should have completed or is presently enrolled in an accredited Neurology training programme

7. Neurosonology Fellowship Programme (NNI@SGH)

Objective

The Neurosonology Fellowship is a training programme which aims to equip clinical fellows with theoretical, technical and administrative skills in Neurosonology; specifically Triplex extracranial and transcranial imaging, emboli detection, paradoxical emboli detection and assessment of cerebrovascular reserve.

The fellowship will provide knowledge in the following areas: basics of ultrasound, cerebrovascular anatomy, ultrasound instrumentation, techniques of ultrasound examination, diagnosis of disease, pitfalls in neurosonology and running of a neurosonology laboratory. The fellowship will allow observation as well as hands-on opportunities.

Candidates should be a neurology trainee / stroke fellow (or equivalent).

8. Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Fellowship Programme (NNI@SGH / NNI@TTSH)

Objective

The Fellowship in Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders aims to help clinical fellows excel in the evaluation and management of patients with parkinsonism and other movement disorders. Clinical Fellows would be able to further understand the role of neurologists in DBS surgery: patient selection, pre-operative assessment, intra-operative evaluation and post-operative programming and become familiar with various clinical rating scales and videotape protocols. Clinical fellows would also be given the opportunity to learn and understand research strategies, methodologies and techniques in PD and movement disorders.

9. Stroke Fellowship Programme (NNI@SGH / NNI@TTSH)

Objective

The Neurology Fellowship in Stroke aims to provide clinical fellows with up-to-date clinical skills for the diagnosis and management of stroke disorders. Clinical fellows will be able to acquire skills in neuroimaging, ICU care, acute stroke management, Acute Stroke Unit management and outpatient stroke care. In addition, fellows would be given an opportunity to learn research methodology and participate in Stroke research (including academically driven studies and multi-centre trials).

Entry Requirement

Candidates should have completed basic training in Neurology and have post-graduate medical qualification (e.g. MMED or equivalent) with minimum 2 years of postgraduate training experience in relevant specialty (after obtaining the postgraduate medical qualification). Candidates should also hold a position as Registrar, Resident or equivalent (AST level).
