Time: 11.00AM – 12.00PM
Venue: IMCB Seminar Room 3-46, Level 3 Proteos, Biopolis, Singapore 138673 (Physical)

A/Prof Beng Ti Ang, Head of Neurosurgery, National Neuroscience Institute (NNI)
A/Prof Carol Tang, Co-lead of the Neuro-Oncology Research Program, NNI
Abstract
Glioblastoma (GBM) remains one of the most untreatable central nervous system malignancies. This is mainly due to inaccessibility of tumor tissue at eloquent areas of the brain during repeat surgeries, as well as recent progress implicating inter- and intra-tumor heterogeneity. We will present an overview of the recently formalized GBM tumor resource, and efforts from the multi-disciplinary team to address technological and conceptual problems in designing serial monitoring and treatment approaches. With the advent of single-cell technologies and availability of public GBM consortial databases, we describe our preliminary evidence on therapeutic resistance arising from a novel non-canonical function of enhancer of zeste homolog 2 (EZH2).
Biography
A/Prof Beng Ti Ang is a neurosurgeon and Head of Neurosurgery, NNI (SGH campus) and A/Prof Carol Tang co-lead the Neuro-Oncology Research Program at NNI. The team demonstrated molecular subtype switching underlying treatment resistance and established patient stratification methodologies aimed at serial monitoring of the patient’s disease progression. Together with multi-disciplinary investigators from NTU (SBS), Duke-NUS (CSCB), NUS Biomedical Engineering and A*STAR, the team was awarded the Translational and Clinical Research Program in 2016, and most recently the Large Collaborative Grant in 2021. As part of its clinical translation goal, induction into the GBM AGILE trial consortium allows researchers the opportunity to integrate into existing global trials through contribution of novel stratification methodologies.
