Singapore, 30 October 2008 - The National Neuroscience Institute (NNI) and Changi General Hospital (CGH) will be hosting the 10th Singapore Stroke Conference at Changi General Hospital, Auditorium on 31 October – 02 November 2008.
Stroke is a major cause of death and disability in Singapore and in many other parts of the world. With the aging population, the number of people developing stroke is set to rise. Fortunately, there are a number of effective interventions which had been proven to reduce the risk of the first as well as subsequent strokes and to improve post-stroke recovery.
The World Stroke Organisation, which is affiliated with the World Health Organisation, has declared 29 October 2008 as World Stroke Day (WSD). The annual Singapore Stroke Conference, now in its 10th year, is THE scientific and educational forum for stroke in Singapore, highlighting the advances in prevention, treatment and outcomes of stroke. This year’s conference is held as part of the WSD events. According to Dr Lee Sze Haur, Organizing Chairman, "This year’s conference is themed: ‘Neurorestoration – Reducing Recurrence, Enhancing Recovery, as many important clinical concepts in stroke prevention, acute interventions, restorative treatments, nursing and rehabilitation will be discussed at the conference. With the wide scope of topics, it is our aim to share with the healthcare professionals on the latest developments in treating and management of stroke."
Comprising a faculty of 41 speakers representing the various hospitals and professional organizations, the 3-day conference will draw together an audience of 400 healthcare professionals which includes family physicians, specialists, nurses and therapists. The conference provides a platform for the professionals to exchange up-to-date information in the field of Stroke, ranging from epidemiology, to practical clinical applications and management.
In addition to the series of lecture sessions, there will be on-site visit to the acute stroke unit and rehab unit as well as various workshops that focus on nursing, gait therapy and assessment of patient with spasticity. |
