EEG - EMG WORKSHOP
Interactive Teaching Course With Live Demonstrations

Date : 28 - 30 NOVEMBER 2008

Venue : TTSH Theatrette, Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Singapore

This is a teaching workshop focusing on the principles and practice of electrodiagnosis, and the interpretation of normal and abnormal electrocephalograms (EEG).

EMG
The faculty would perform electrodiagnostic evaluations on patients with various neurological disorders, and audio-visual aids would be used to allow the participants to closely observe the range of tests. Emphasis would be placed on the following:

- pre-test clinical evaluation of patient
- planning an electrodiagnostic study
- placement of nerve conduction electrodes and stimulation of peripheral nerves
- interpretation of nerve conduction parameters, such as distal motor latency, conduction
  velocity, F latency
- needle electrode placement for electromyography
- identification of the various types of spontaneous activities
- analysis of motor unit morphology
- assessment of recruitment pattern

In addition, more specialised electrodiagnostic techniques such as single fiber EMG, repetitive stimulation tests and blink reflex would be demonstrated.

This year Dr Sanjeev Nandedkar, biomedical engineer and pioneer developer of synergy systems, would be joining the faculty. He is well renowned for his expertise in quantitative analysis techniques, and he would help advance our understanding of the EMG signal.

EEG
The faculty will discuss different aspects of EEG interpretation. Actual EEG tracings would be used to illustrate examples of normal variants, abnormal EEG patterns (e.g. focal slowing, triphasic waves), epileptiform discharges, and ictal EEG tracings.

All sessions would be interactive, giving participants ample opportunity to interact real time with the tutor and patient. There would be no didactic lectures. Instead participants will receive a comprehensive syllabus detailing the theoretical basis of the techniques demonstrated.
